Christ the Redeemer

This is the statue of Christ the Redeemer at the top of Corcovado Mt which means 'hunchback' in Portuguese. The statue is very moving and beautiful. About 3 weeks ago it was struck by lightening and the right hand was damaged. The view from the top is amazing, the whole of Rio before you. You take a funicular railway to get to the top which takes about 20 minutes through a lovely forest. Across the bay is Sugarloaf Mt. which you reach by cable car. The views from that are incredible too, with Copacabana beach stretching like a ribbon below you. We went there on the same day so unfortunately I could only blip one of many views.
