Boys' Biking Trip Day 5 - Cullen Creek / Waikakaho
The fifth and last day of our biking trip proved to be another epic ride. From Linkwater, on the Queen Charlotte Drive road (near Kenepuru Sound turn-off) we rode above Cullen Creek up a heinous zig zag track. When we got to the beach forest the track was completely un-rideable, with slipper tree roots and rocks made worse by the constant light drizzle. This turned into a two-hour walk, pushing/carrying the bikes.
From the saddle the descent into the Waikakaho Valley was fun but treacherous in the wet, so caution prevailed. Could be a total blast in the dry.
Then 10km out on shingle road to the car. Despite the wet, difficult riding and no views because of the weather, I couldn't stop smiling. Hard work but a suitable way to end a fantastic week.
Now, Thai take-out and a few beers.
