Brutalist
Archway Tower. Built 1963. 195 feet, 16 storeys. Beloved by the Concrete Society, despised by most locals. Too expensive and complicated to demolish as it's built on top of the tube.
Home to the DSS in the '80's. New Model Army saw it as epitomizing Thatcher's Britain and wrote a song, Archway Towers, about it.

There's bullet proof glass in case there is trouble
Recently bought by a developer, Essential Living, who are planning to convert it into residential units. It will be the largest office to residential development under the new planning laws. Islington Council is opposed, but they don't have any say, and local residents are not impressed that it will not contain any affordable housing.
There are great views from the top though - visited earlier in the year when the developers had an open day - but once it's converted these will be residents only.
My guided walk, Archway my way, starts here tomorrow.
