Sarah Morgan

Today was the memorial concert for our wonderful choir leader, Sarah Morgan, who died last autumn. Fellow blippers Grains of Sand and Red Flash are also in the choir and were singing at the concert this evening.

Sarah was someone who genuinely inspired and influenced me.

So why this picture? I walked past the building in this photo on my way to the concert tonight. This is where I used to work and where I first met Sarah in the early 1990s. In fact the window near the top left of this picture, which is slightly open, was her office which she shared with several colleagues and I was in a team in the room next door. Local government was far from being a forward-thinking place in those days and Sarah could always be relied on to make a subtle comment that would prick the pomposity of the old guard and make people laugh. And more importantly in her professional role she helped to encourage and develop countless people.

It was good to know her in a different context when I joined the choir but it was terrible and unfair that she left us so soon. Life - and the choir - goes on, but the world is a worse place without Sarah in it.
