The window
De Schreierstoren is a stone’s throw from Amsterdam Centraal Station. Originally built as a defense tower in 1481, it formed part of the city wall in medieval times. Nowadays, it is a café and a nice place to hang out over drinks and Dutch bitterballen appetizers.
Our server was aghast when asked if this window could be closed to make it quieter for our VVAO women’s group gathering this evening. We were informed that the “oldest window in Amsterdam” should not be touched and was no longer functional in any case.
At the meeting, the multi-talented Sou’ad El Baghdadi talked about her work as a milliner and her creative process for making beautiful hats and hatpieces. She brought several samples of her designs, including colourful ladies fashion hats as well as felt fedoras and headpieces.
Today we doff our hats for our friend, Peter.
