St. Benedict's Painted Church

Only a small portion of located in Captain Cook, Hawaii.

Father John Velghe in the early 1900's using house paint on ordinary wood beautified the church with his paintings. The pictures taught the scripture as many Hawaiians could not read or write. Father John Velghe never had any professional art training.

The painting on the left is The Handwriting on the Wall.
The painting on the right is Temptation of Jesus.

This was processed as HDR due to low light in the church.
