Kelpies at The Helix
A trip to Falkirk for a family walk along the Union and Forth & Clyde Canal, about 13 km, just over 8 miles. A whole day trip starting from Falkirk High station, along the Union canal to the Falkirk Wheel, and then along the Forth & Clyde Canal to the Kelpies, pictured here, looking good large.
They are, in fact, very large, and very spectacular. While a kelpie is a mythical creature, water spirit or demon that lures children to their death. These Kelpies are representative of the role that certain heavy breeds of horse had in industrial and agricultural Scotland.
We had a brilliant day out.
P.S. The visitor centre isn't open yet, so a visit to The Kelpies is a dry day adventure.
