Fiest'A Sète

Roberto Fonseca at the piano and Fatoumata Diawara singing at a concert during the Fiest'A Sète. Just amazing. Breathtaking musicianship. An electricity in the music which came partly from the driving rhythms, partly from the obvious intimacy of Fonseca and Diawara. He announced at one point, 'Fatoumata and I, we are . . .' 'LOVEURS!' screamed the woman behind us. ' . . . very close spiritually and musically' continued Fonseca.
They were followed by Orquesta Aragon, a Cuban dance band I've seen and enjoyed before, and they were good, but frankly the first set was impossible to follow. I'm waiting impatiently for the joint Fonseca/Diawara album, which is apparently in preparation.
