Welcome to Cumbria!

Just as well we decided to go to Bristol Balloon Fiesta Saturday morning as there was no way that the balloons were going to take off Sunday morning with glowering skies and heavy rain showers. So after a restful morning, to recover from the previous hectic day (and the Champagne!), we headed north to Cumbria.

What a journey! Google predicted four and a half hours driving time, but what with very heavy traffic around Birmingham, endless roadworks, a nasty accident and then catching up with ex-Hurricane Bertha, the journey turned into a nightmare seven hour ordeal!!

The further north we went, the quieter the roads became, but the worse the weather got: low clouds, torrential rain and high winds. Luckily for me, I was only the co-pilot today, solely responsible for inflight refreshments and entertainment!

So seven hours later, two weary travellers arrived at their destination, a small Cumbrian village east of Carlisle. The log fire and candles were lit, the Rioja was opened and enjoyed... Had to keep reminding myself that it was still August!!
