One bad apple

Today, I was trying out my new toy :)

Assorted family and friends (hi Lou! :D) have been trying to persuade me that it would be sensible to get a compact camera, so I don't have to lug the a700 and related parphenalia parraphe stuff around with me when I travel. Well, this week I bit the bullet, and yesterday a shiny new rx100 arrived.

Today was busy again, so I didn't have much chance to try it out, but I took it out into the garden in the afternoon to have a go. We've plenty of "mellow fruitfulness" here just now, especially on the apple tree which is groaning under the weight of fruit, but I thought this rather unsavoury apple actually made for a more interesting picture than the pristine ones.

Verdict on the camera so far? Far too early to say, but once I got over the shock of "Arrgghh - there's nothing to LOOK THROUGH!!" I found it pretty straightforward to use (many similar options to my big camera, being a Sony). And it let's me get in close, which I like, and when I get the settings right it seems to turn out a pretty decent image. Long train journey tomorrow so I'll take it, then later in the week I'll be heading to Scotland for a few days... so let's see if I can manage to leave my "proper" camera at home then and put this new little thing through its paces.

Hope you all have a great weekend! :)

If you've a strong stomach, take a closer look at the bad apple.
