Port Hopetoun
Sited in the centre of the building frontage, this plaque, depicting a narrowboat pulled by a horse, commemorates the canal basin on which it stands, which was filled in in 1922 when the canals fell out of use. At one time the basin, and its nearby counterpart, Port Hamilton, was busy with transport of coal, grain and building materials: Lothian House, a fine Art Deco local government office block, now converted to flats, stands in its place.
