Nerines

It's Derelict Thursday - the perfect opportunity for a bit of trespass inquiry! I love this little farm, sitting on its own just before you take the mountain road to Bantry. Many of these little houses were built around 1913, improved homes for farm labourers. It has two downstairs rooms and an attic above. The freeholding came with an acre of land so you could be reasonably self-sufficient. The farm buildings remain - an animal shed and a corrugated iron barn. It's surrounded by stone walls and has two neat columns, a small gate and little path leading you up to the front door. The hydrangeas and nerines are a wonderful pink at the moment, testimony to someone's love of flowers. The last resident died about 9 years ago, an elderly single man. The windows are boarded up and the damp is leaving black trails along the walls but the hedge is still being trimmed. Thanks to SarumStroller for brightening up Thursdays!

The weather is still holding but next week looks pretty damp. I'm working like mad in the garden, cutting everything back. The air temperature has dropped too, it might be a bit chily for a swim - I'll see! Out for supper tonight so catch up soon.
