A new face!

An elephant seal puppy born today on our beach. We were lucky enough to be there just after it happened, before all these skuas and a giant petrel showed up trying to get a meal from the placenta and umbilicus.
It looked a harsh entry to the world, with all those beaks pecking, but it prompted a good deal of high pitched barking from the puppy which led to a good deal of face to face interaction with the mother.
We returned later and it looked like it had enjoyed it's first feed.
