One of the things I like about locks is the inevitable patina - the evidence of tiny misadventures that have occurred throughout the lives of the devices. All the little scratches from keys that "missed the mark" in the dark are one aspect of this as are all of the tiny wounds in unpredictable places that defy ready explanation. This lock wears its scars with a defiant pride.
