Grey Heron

Lakes are freezing, waterholes are getting rare: This Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea) has found a very small one. The wading bird is actually standing on ice to watch it.

The authorities at Bremen's Bürgerpark are keeping holes open for the birds, but herons prefer keeping their privacy.
