First Sign of Fall
It felt like summer when we left on Friday to go to Portland, but when we got back to Bellingham on Monday night, the streets were wet and the temperature had dropped significantly.
Our main source of heating during the colder months is radiant floor heat, which is very good at maintaining a constant temperature -- and keeping our feet warm -- but is very slow to respond to changes in the thermostat setting. We usually keep it set at a temperature which is comfortable when we're on the move, and use the gas fireplace for a boost when we're sitting. I turn off the pilot jet during the summer, and clean the inside of the glass window when I relight it in the fall. It's always a sad reminder of the long dark nights ahead.
