Aspiration

Once or twice a month my morning route takes me past this statue of a male sprinter atop a gate post at the entry to Auckland Domain. This morning as the clouds moved in, there was a brief period where he appeared to be trying to leap into the blue sky. It reminds me of a Jules Pfeiffer cartoon from many years ago; after giving many reasons for jogging, his protagonist launched into the sky declaiming "I jog for glory"
