Meet the Walnut
It's really nothing impressive when you see the blip.
However
When you grip its trunk as I do, sometimes
When you've seen it grow for the past eight years, as I did
When you remember it after the great march frost of 2005, when half of it froze to death
When it gave *1* Walnut for the first time
You would think it an impressive tree.
It's a seedling, I believe, and of an unknown varietal as well. Seedlings take 7 or more years to bear fruit and are less productive than the selected varietals. As I now understand, walnuts should best be grown from selected and grafted varietals. This is knowledge I gathered after I gathered some 500 nuts at Buren...
