The Edge of the Wold

Bay sunset

The sun sets in Morecambe Bay, a heron slowly stalks along the water's edge.

This was taken from the small bay at Far Arnside. The setting sun at this time of the year from this perspective has now cleared all land and is setting in the water and mudflats of Morecambe Bay.

After an afternoon in the garden, we went to see the sun go down and while I scrabbled around on the cliff trying to keep the heron's profile within the water, Wifie practised her Tai Chi on the pebbly limestone beach.

I was up early this morning, but there was no dawn to speak of. I went down to the Arnside Promenade to view the nearly full moon sinking. It struck me that I might be able to photograph the moon sat on the top of the flag-pole on the Pier. But when I set the camera up, even better: a starling landed on the top of the pole. And as I photographed it, a second one attempted to dislodge it. It was tempting to blip this as something that will probably be unrepeatable, but it was not quite sharp enough hand-held in the early morning light. So I've posted it on Flickr, have a look if you have time.

I was very tired after the man flu during the week, so after breakfast I retired back to bed and ended up spending several hours of the bright morning sunshine fast asleep. Oh well, I must have needed it.
