Postcard from Durham
This view of Durham Cathedral, from a bridge over the river Wear, has featured on any number of postcards, for good reason. No apologies for copying then.
The final part of my birthday present involved a 12 minute train journey (First Class) from Newcastle to Durham. Anniemay spots Simon Reeve (TV explorer) sitting a few seats away. As we pull into Durham I go over and say hi and give him a few useful pointers about how to improve his pieces to camera, before leaving the train. I think he found them useful.
We have a pleasant stroll round the Cathedral and the old part of the city before catching the train back. No celebrities were spotted on the return journey.
The saga of the missing internet rumbles on; first of all, the hotel says our laptops are at fault, then they say it’s BT’s fault. BT says it’s the hotel’s fault. And so it goes. The upshot is that we have to go and find somewhere else to connect to. I’m quite looking forward to when we check out tomorrow and the discussion over our refusal to pay for the internet. As a pensioner, writing letters of complaint is in my job description and I have a draft already prepared on my laptop.
