some folk on a green
Every June around this time, the Buckinghamshire town of Stony Stratford hosts a week-long festival of Arts, Music and Literature which culminates in an out-door music concert called Folk on the Green. The green in question is Horse Fair Green. ‘Folk’ refers to the musicians taking part, who may or may not belong to that particular musical genre.
Today three of my bandmates are on stage as the crowd enjoy the sunshine and the burgers, beer and henna tatoos, without which F o t G would not be complete.
The extra shows the same event, this time back in 2005. I haven’t been for a few years and while some things remain the same, others have changed. The house behind the stage, for example, has had a new coat of paint. And the event now appears to have a sponsor (whose name I have obliterated).
The band is different, although the mandolin player and the bass player appear in both photos. The singer in the white shirt is me. Anniemay is somewhere in the crowd probably thinking that my shirt needs a good iron. That hasn’t changed.
