ALMOST THE MIDNIGHT HOUR

Well, it was going to be a flower blip but ended up with the inside of an ambulance just before midnight. A neighbour was taken ill and with no next of kin I went with her. The ambulance took two and a half hours to arrive though it did come from Hawes, 40 miles up the Dales to the North, to take us to the hospital, 10 miles to the South. No local ambulances due to Saturday night club syndrome, and plenty of that in evidence in the waiting room.

Everyone was very kind, but the waiting was interminable. My neighbour was finally admitted at 4am, and I got home in a taxi, with a pink sunrise appearing over the hills, at 4:45am. Shattered.
