Mr. Yankee
You would think that if we drove an hour away to see our Detroit Tigers play the New York Yankees...that I would post a picture of one of the Tigers.
But, c'mon...this is Derek Jeter. Mr. Yankee.
This is his last season. He is retiring after this season.
I love how he hustles every time he hits the ball. I love how he tries to do whatever the team needs. I love how he fields his position. I love how he is always thinking...wherever he is on the diamond. And...I love how he commands respect...from both his teammates and his opponents.
Can you tell I like him?
I just think he is special...one of the few baseball players that I would say that about. Al Kaline, Tony Oliva, Robin Yount, Carl Yastremski, Willie Mays, Ernie Banks, Cal Ripken. A short list for me.
Add Derek Jeter to the list. I'd like to say that he had a great day, but he didn't. A couple of strikeouts, but I'm glad I got to see him play. Mr. Yankee. Mr. Hustle. The Captain. 'Nuff said.
The game ended (after 10 innings) in a 7-7 tie. A tie is like kissing your sister (sorry Terrie), but at least it didn't rain on us.
