Our Back Yard

OMG, we sure live in a amazing country, our scenery is incredible, wild and wonderful. This high country tarn is just 90 minutes drive from here. Worth a look in large I think

Today Doug & I and another couple headed up into the high country to Mesopotamia Station, It is located in the high-country at the headwaters of the Rangitata gorge at about 457 metres (1800 ft) above sea level rising to 2660 metres (7500 ft). Its size is just over 25, 000 acres and currently has 11,000 merino sheep, 3000 deer and 500 cattle. We've been up there a few times over the years, but it never fails to impress.

The reason today was to do a recce for an upcoming field trip weekend we are running for our photography club. We needed to sort out the accommodation, and find places to take sunrises, sunsets, general landscapes. We found all of that and so much more. I took nearly 300 images. We were so lucky as they were shearing the Merino's today; the didn't mind us photographing the shearing, the throwing of the fleeces etc etc. Then we went up a 4 wheel drive track way up the back of the homestead to a plateau where we had our picnic lunch whilst enjoying such magnificent 360 deg view.

Any rate, I must stop as I will be boring you. This tarn was on our way down the track. Clare and I had to scale two fences and a plantation of trees to get to this - was it worth it, yes indeedy. The map shows just where we were.
