Workbox
Today's the day ..................... to catalogue
Did a bit of accessioning today - cataloguing artefacts into our museum collection - including a beautiful mahogany workbox full of needles, thread, thimbles, tiny little scissors and all sorts of other things that you would use to sew.
It belonged to someone called Ann Young who lived in Leominster. She was born in 1748 and lived until 1832 - which makes her 84 years old when she died. We also have several pieces of her work - intricate samplers with words of wisdom, most of them dated.
It really sends a shiver up the spine when you realise that you are holding something that she would have handled many, many times - all those hundreds of years ago ...............
