Walnuts

Today's the day ......................... to gather nature's bounty

This part of France is abundant with 'food for free' at this time of the year. A walk around the village provided us with these walnuts, a bag of sweet chestnuts - which were later roasted on the barbeque and some wild mushrooms.

Walnuts are grown commercially in large orchards. They are sold as actual nuts or made into delicious walnut oil. The taste of freshly picked walnuts is completely different from those you can eventually buy in the shops - but then that probably applies to all things grown in the soil .....................
