Kendal Castle
Today's the day ............................ to put the record straight
This is Kendal Castle - or at least all that's left of it - just catching the last rays of sunshine today. There's a popular myth that it was the home of Katherine Parr, the sixth wife of King Henry VIII of England. It wasn't!
It was built in the late 12th century for the Lancaster family who were Barons of Kendal. It did eventually became part of the inheritance of the Parr family when Sir William Parr married the Kendal heiress, Elizabeth de Ros, during the reign of Edward III of England. But by the time Katherine was born in 1512, the family had long deserted the castle, which was already falling into disrepair.
It's a nice story though .........................
