Bryn Terfel

Today's the day ....................... for a birthday bash

It was actually a Christmas present from Will - so I've been waiting a while to receive it.

But tonight I went to the 50th Birthday Concert of the wonderful Welsh bass-baritone, Bryn Terfel - in the Royal Albert Hall in London.  He had a few of his friends there too so it was quite an extravaganza of breath-taking musical talent - and I enjoyed every minute of it.

There were old friends that we've known from before like the harpist, Katrin Finch, and the male voice choir, Only Men Aloud.  But there were also several others that we know only through having their CDs such as the folk group, Calan, the tenor John Owen-Jones or the trumpet-player, Alison Balsom.

The special guest was Sting, who was returning the favour owing to Bryn Terfel when the latter appeared at his 60th Birthday concert in 2011.  They sang together tonight - a powerful version of Sting's song 'Roxanne' - which very nearly brought the house down. This is Bryn singing at Sting's concert just to give you an idea of what it sounded like.

It was a truly wonderful night - and well worth the wait .......................
