Earthworks
Today's the day .......................... to be different
We have decided to change our back garden.
It was a sort of Christmas present to each other - although as it is going to involve lots of hard work and physical effort, it's debateable whether it comes in any sort of 'present' category? Anyway, we've been out there today working to Will's plan to change lawn into raised vegetable beds, move special herbaceous plants to a new border - and get rid of a mountain of other ones that are just trying to take over the world.
It has all made me realise that Will and I are completely different gardeners. He's an earth mover, wall builder, pond maker - a structural gardener. He can cut through unwanted vegetation, dig trenches and shift stuff at a rate of knots because he sees the big picture. Me? - I'm a rockery weeder, a saver of plants from small cuttings, a dead-header. I'm a gardener of the small exquisite things - I see the detail. It probably explains why you rarely see us gardening together - or at least, not in the same bit of the garden.
But we're both necessary if we want a garden that will flourish. So, just as soon as he's finished with the earthworks - I'll be out there with the fine detail ......................
