Today's the day ............................. to be one of the crowd

What a great day - and an almighty great big tick in the bucket list of life!

I was there - one of the thousands of people that witnessed the 14th Stage (Montelimar - Villars-les-Dombes) of Le Tour de France.  We took up position just near the summit of Cote d'Hauterives - with a few hours to spare.  You have to do that because firstly they close all the roads around 11.30am - but there's an enormous amount of excitement and goings-on that you have to be part of, long before any riders appear.  The various sponsors are very generous with their freebies as the Tour Caravane drives in procession along the route.

By the time the cyclists actually appear, the crowd had been whipped up to a frenzy of excitement - and that's my excuse for pressing the button too soon on my camera.  As a result, I didn't manage a very good picture of Team Sky and my hero, Geraint Thomas - but thankfully Will did and this is it.  I would like to think that we were operating as Team Williams.

Quite frankly, I don't care!  I was there and I saw them all - and it was every bit as exciting as I hoped it would be...................
