Primula denticulata

Today's the day ........................ for the drumstick

This is another welcome harbinger of spring that I noticed in the garden today.

Primula denticulata - or the 'drumstick' primula starts off with green shoots that appear from the ground and develop into rosettes of fresh green, toothed leaves. Upright flower stems soon follow, growing to 20cm or more in height, carrying a mass of tight buds which open into ball-shaped clusters of tiny flowers. The flowers are long-lasting and several 'drumstick' heads appear from each rosette as the plants mature.

This one had a big drop of water on it this morning - but that would soon have disappeared.  It has been a lovely day - although pretty chilly ........................
