Tongland Abbey Wall

Today's the day ……………………….. to turn a corner

Lots of progress today on the Tongland Abbey dig.

This is looking down into one of the trenches where you really can see the Abbey wall slowly emerging from the earth.  That big stone at the left end is Sheila's Stone - now revealed to its full extent.  It is a huge stone that goes deep down into the wall.

And, what's more, it could be that there is another wall emerging at right angles to the long wall, running under the grass at the left of the picture.  That would make Sheila's Stone a cornerstone right on the outer edge where the wall changes direction.

You would need a very big and tough stone for that, wouldn't you ………………….?!
