Mr Heron
Today’s the day ................... to get on board
The little Yorkshire town of Sowerby Bridge was where we picked up our narrowboat.
It’s a town well used to water-borne travellers, sitting as it does, astride the River Calder and the Calder & Hebble Navigation – as the canal is called round here. The company hiring out our boat was called ‘Shire Cruisers’ and all their boats are named after English Counties. We have had ‘Cornwall’ twice before – but this time, our chosen boat was called ‘Huntingdon’.
Whether this heron had hired out ‘Sussex’ and was waiting for his crew – or was just keeping an eye on us – I leave to you ....................
