Tongland Abbey

Today's the day ………………………… to find a channel

We were hoping that we would uncover it in our trench - and today I found it.

I hope that you can make out in the centre of this picture, a straight-edged channel between the stones at present still filled with a fine soil?  Well it's along there, that the water supply to Tongland Abbey, would have flowed on its way to the kitchen, followed by the latrines and eventually into the River Dee at the bottom of the hill.  I know it doesn't look much at the moment - but it made me pretty happy to find it.

And I'll keep you posted on its progress over the coming weeks ……………..
