Tongland Abbey
Today's the day ………………………… for a progress report
There's only a couple of weeks left for the Tongland Abbey Archaeological Dig before all the trenches will have to filled back in.
So I thought I would let you know how things have gone since I posted this blip back in July. I was pretty pleased because we'd just found what was thought to be the drainage channel that would have brought a supply of fresh water into the Abbey. Well three months on, it now looks as above. It's actually at right-angles to where I originally showed it. It's a continuous, but very curvy, straight-edged channel - that we probably haven't quite got to the bottom of yet - and (in my eyes!) it's absolutely beautiful.
Of course, for the past month, the leaves have been falling off the trees round the site, into the trenches - and the day usually starts with a leaf-clearing exercise. But it's not long before they're back in there again - a sure sign that it is time to close everything up for another year.
I shall miss it greatly ………………………..
