Apples

Today's the day ........................ for biomass

I confess that I find this time of the year in the garden - a bit overwhelming.

Everything has been growing away since it was planted or first appeared in the soil and by now, the amount of plant material has reached epic proportions.  Take the sweet peas for example?  They have been wonderfully sweetly-smelling and colourful all summer - and there are still a few flowers right at the top.  But most of them are a tangled mass of stems that just have to be mercilessly chopped and disposed of.

Will has spent several hours today picking apples and, at the same time pruning the trees.  The above large cardboard box is just half the apples off one of the trees.  There are eight apple trees in the garden and they're all laden with apples, so goodness knows what we're going to do with them?!  The ones above are lovely cooking apples but they don't keep (we tried storing them last winter).

So, like I said, it's all a bit overwhelming to someone who loves growing things - and no comfort at all to be told that it's just - the cycle of life .........................!
