Birthday Dessert
First of all, snow fell in the night here and it was quite pretty at 5 in the morning. Thankfully it has slushy and melting fast when I left to go to Portland.
I went to lunch with my aunt for my birthday today. I wanted to take her to the Cuban restaurant, Pambiche, in Portland. I've been there one other time with Bill and I'd promised auntie that we'd go there. So, we did! Finally. It is small, a bit noisy, busy, and DELICIOUS. I want to go back there again sometime as they have a really great menu. This cake, as I found out after I'd eaten every last bite, is gluten free and made with rice flour. The cream is a fruit cream and I believe it was mango flavoring. It was really good and it was so light and airy. Didn't realize it wasn't a traditional flour made cake. If anyone locally is interested you can look up their web site easily just search for Pambiche and you can see their fabulous and authentic menu. It's a real treat.
HKoba blipped this restaurant awhile back. Is this colorful or what?
We will do a family thing on the weekend, so birthday isn't over with yet. Thank you for your birthday greetings. I appreciate it.
This is what I think of when I visualize myself. I am on the far right. Auntie is in the middle and a friend of ours on the left. They came to visit me when I lived in my little studio apartment in Honolulu. We thought we were just the cat's meow. This was back in the late Jurassic period. ;>) Think Viet Nam War (there is always a war to define your youth, sadly), flower power, moon walks (pre Michael Jackson), peace signs, Laugh-In with Rowan and Martin and The Monkees on TV with cutie patootie Davy Jones who just died. As somebody famous once said, "If I knew it was going to be an era, I would have paid more attention.."
