Peacock
The first proper spring day today: at lunchtime chiffchaffs were singing in the car park at work, having just returned from Africa. I wandered behind the office and found three of these peacock butterflies inachis io. These beauties have overwintered in the adult state, often in sheds and outhouses, and have just emerged now it's warmed up.
There is plenty of pollen and nectar for them in those blackthorn blossoms - I got pollen all over my suit. Joining in the feast were a small tortoiseshell butterfly and lots of hover-flies.
I just back-blipped for yesterday a collage of 60s memorabilia - don't get too excited though, it's not as interesting as it sounds!
