Finding 'Love' in Unexpected Places

Today, Feb 13th, was the unofficial day of 'Love is the Moment', an event in support of 'To Write Love on Her Arms'. This organization is an American non-profit organization which aims to present hope and find help for young people struggling with problems such as depression, drug addiction, self-injury, and suicide.

Today's event was to spread awareness of these issues during the time of year when depression and suicide rates are at their highest. We physically will write the word 'love' on our arms. When someone asks us about it, we are to tell them about TWLOHA and tell them that they are loved. Then, we ask if we can write 'love' on their arms as a symbol that they are loved.

In my qualitative methods class tonight, my 6pm-10pm class, I announced the project to my fellow classmates and asked for their participation. Most of them have noticed that I keep taking pictures for this 'photo blog thing' I'm on and asked if it was for that. I told them that the picture would be posted on my blog and offered a link for them to see the final shot. I asked that they hang around after class if they were willing to participate.

After class, I was greatly surprised at the number of my classmates were willing to hang around for an extra few minutes to help me out and for the cause itself. This picture is of their wrists. Obviously. But it made my day to see how many of them willingly participated. You guys are amazing. :)

The girl glanced around her. It was morning and she needed a new subject. She took a left out of the cafe she had eaten at and wandered down the street. She passed businessmen, panhandlers, street-side salesmen, even dog-walkers. What were their lives like? How did they do it everyday? The same job every day. The same activities day after day after day. She liked her job a lot more. She smiled to herself.
