where the wall meets the sea
We went on a mini-road trip yesterday to find where the Great Wall of China meets the sea. A few hours' drive away from Beijing, Shanhaiguan is a nice-enough walled town surrounded by typical Chinese city (where the driving is even worse than in Beijing), with Laolongtou (Old Dragon Head) just outside- and this is where the Wall meets the sea.
This photo is actually taken from Old Dragon Head (which in itself is not stunning, and turned out to have been rebuilt in the 1980s after it crumbled into the sea). Who knows when these pagodas were built, but they are prettier than the bit we were standing on, and I quite like the de-noised effect. Maybe some of the rocks in the sea are real Great Wall?
