front door.... 2
Our town is an ancient market town located in the North of Shropshire close by the English - Welsh Border. Its strategic position as a 'frontier town' has given it a turbulent history..
It was given a Charter by Charles 2nd in 1674, but some parts date from well before then more history here if you are interested
The Old Fort just to the north of the town was started over 2500 yrs ago lots of legends are attached to it even King Arthur is mentioned.
Most of the town centre has been designated a Conservation Area conveying a mixture of architectural styles. There are many old timber framed houses, for example Llwyd mansion
Many times I've stood right in front of this door in the car, waiting for the traffic lights to change...[it stands on a busy crossroads in town..] but it's only when I went out in search for todays blip that I saw how old the cottage is.
Don't know how old the front door is, or who lives there but:
it tells me folk in those days were a lot smaller. I think I will have to 'courtsey' a little to enter.....
it also tells me clean or take your boots off before entering..., that little black hole right of the door is a boot scraper....no pavements, no proper roads so dusty muddy horse boots were a daily task to clean....
Both yesterdays blip and todays somehow also convey the prevailing attitude of the time 'my house is my castle' a very private place.
All doors from that time look very forbidding but todays ones somehow all look similar i thin...k
