Rail cars...

...sitting on the rails on the south end of the Ogden rail yards, complete with power lines and graffiti. The golden spike was driven May 10, 1869 at Promontory Point, Utah uniting the Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroads and completing the first transcontinental railroad. Promontory Point, or Promontory Summit, is about 50 miles northwest of Ogden. This made Ogden one of the most important rail yards in the west, and a major stop over between San Francisco and Omaha. There is still a lot of activity with freight trains in these yards, although passenger traffic has mostly given way to air travel.

It is interesting to look at some of the graffiti on the rail cars. A lot of it is very artistic, and it's amazing what they can do with a few cans of spray paint. Some of it is obscene, but a lot of it is just good art. I plan to do more photos of the rail yards in future blips, so stick with me.
