Lake Mahinapua, West Coast

Today was a beautiful day.

We slept badly and started slowly.

We grabbed a coffee in town and then took Cousteau for a walk on the beach. He behaved absolutely perfectly. The sea was an amazing colour and almost seemed to blend with the sky.

We decided that a kayak would wake us up and so we headed down to Lake Mahinapua, about 10 km south of Hokitika. It was beautiful and really revived us. We paddled for about 2 hours and came back refreshed and ready to do it again tomorrow. A fantastic spot. It's not dog friendly, but we kept Cousteau chained to the van so he couldn't wander and no-one told us off, so all good.

A simple tea, another missed sunset and hopefully a good night's sleep.
