Babies and blanket weed

Meet the newest members of the family - The Toadlets. I've been waiting for weeks to see these as we had watched the toadspawn develop, then the tadpoles hatch and grow and then... they disappeared! They do this every year, but I want to pull the blanket weed out of the pond but can't risk doing it while there are still tadpoles as they can't escape. At least I now know that the toadlets can hop/walk away as and when I take the weed out. (Although this does mean I don't have any excuse now!)

I love having the pond in the garden - its not very big, but we have three fish, two newts, two frogs and umpteen toads. The toads and frogs are expecially welcome as they help keep the population of slugs and snails down.
