Not the Red Arrows
I so wished I had my camera with me when I went on my run this evening. I got up as far as my mum's cairn on Whitbarrow, when I thought I could hear thunder. I turned around and discovered I had a fantastic view of the Red Arrows display at the Windermere Air Show - not as close as those in Windermere itself, but with the added benefit of the backdrop of an extensive panorama of Lakeland fells. It was utterly amazing. The mountains and crystal blue sky were a huge arena for the tiny planes, which danced through the air, glinting in the sunlight and spewing out coloured trails like sweeping strokes of paint. It was like a firework display in broad daylight, I've never seen anything like it. If I'd had my camera with me, my blip would have been of the white heart they drew in the sky, which towered above me and my mum's resting place, with all the green of our beloved Whitbarrow in the foreground. I guess that will have to be one image just for mum and me.
Instead you get an entirely unrelated shell which sits on the bathroom window and provides constant fascination for the kids.
