Pizza Margarita...
Finally fixed my margarita pizza craving - I havent been able to order it in restaurants due to the tomato recall...decided to make it myself ;) Went down to the local market and was able to find local grown tomatoes...purchased a wheat pizza crust, fresh mozzarella, and basil.
A little history lesson...the margarita is where pizza first started - it was first made in Naples for Queen Margherita...back in 1889 by a baker named Esposito. He designed the pizza to look like the Italian flag - tomato for red, basil for green, and mozzarella for white.
This is the easiest pizza to make...I make it quite often...simple and so delish. Some like the basil fresh - so I suggest adding it once the pizza it out of the oven, I like it baked in with the pizza.
1 ready to use pizza crust
1/2 lb fresh mozzarella - sliced
1 large fresh tomato - sliced thin
1 garlic clove - chopped
10-12 basil leaves - chopped
Olive Oil
Italian Seasoning
Salt/Pepper
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Place crust on pizza pan and drizzle with olive oil. Season with Italian seasoning - bake for 5 to 7 minutes. Remove pizza from oven and add tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, and garlic. Season with salt/pepper. Place pizza back in oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until crispy.
