Third day of de 4-daagse
Here is a group of norwegian soldiers resting. Seemed like we were keeping the same speed as most of the groups. It was the same groups either passing by us when we rested or being passed by us when they were resting. Some of the groups we could recognize by their flag or they were singing specific songs over and over again. The dutch police seemed to fancy a song where they kept singing "he la he la he la ho la la".
I've been carrying my camera around every day but not taken any pictures because I was so busy taking in all the impressions around me. The Nijmegen 4-daagse is really an experience of its own. I wanted to come here since I was 17 years old and did Hærvejsvandringen 300 km the first time, and people talked about how they would come home saturday evening and then leave again sunday morning to go to Nijmegen and walk even more. So I wanted to go do the Nijmegen walk to be one of the "cool" walkers. Cool probably isn't the right word to use as in Denmark people in general concider you rather weird and geeky if you spend your vacation walking. But here in Nijmegen it's so much different. People are out cheering and handing out snacks and lending you their garden hose so you can fill your bottle with fresh water. Everything is big and loud and crowded here. This is truly a great walk! If I ever do this again I wish I could skip day 2 though... that was horrible... Walked most of the time in city or forrest, it just felt like I wasn't getting anywhere no matter how many steps I took. I'm much better out in the open where I can see the landscape changing as I walk and get a feeling that I'm moving forwards.
