DACHAU CONCENTRATION CAMP
We went along to the Dachau concentration camp which is kept pretty much as it was after WW2.
As you would expect it is soul destroying seeing the badness which just runs through everything here.
Top left "Arbeit macht frei" transaltes as work sets you free, this slogan is cast into the gates that all prisoners were marched through, before getting their first taste of the abuse that would follow.
Top Right, this is the memorial to those that died here, it has bits of barbed wire intertwined into the sculpture, this signifies the fence that surrounded the camp which was electrified, which is why the skeletons are in such unpleasant contortions. Apparently many prisoners who couldn't take anymore of the abuse, would commit suicide by going over and simply grabbing the fence.
Bottom Left. The crematorium ovens which burned day and night getting rid of the bodies. They still couldn't get through the bodies quick enough and by liberation day there were bodies piled up everywhere.
Bottom Right A section of the site showing the fence, gate, moat and watchtower.
