God bless nothing
There is no doubt that today is an historic one and it's hard not to feel at least a bit moved.
That said, I'd feel more like getting excited about it if the phrase, "God bless America" didn't feature in the proceedings. America isn't a 'chosen' country and acting as though it is doesn't help anyone. In any case, as we found with Blair, turning to God for policy advice doesn't necessarily lead to sensible decision making :-(
The rise of Obama as the first black president is indeed an amazing and uplifting story. Now I'm waiting to see the first president for whom that phrase means literally nothing.
As you can probably tell, this blip is largely the result of a combination of boredom and lack of imagination about what else to take a photo of. It was done by displaying an image of the US flag on my iPhone, then spinning it randomly under a tripod mounted camera on a long exposure setting.
