Crocodile river.
The Crocodile river just beyond the Harbeespoortdam sluice gates. On the right hand side of the picture, you can see the part of the Magaliesberg mountain that looks like the wind blew it over, which I blipped a few days ago. The sluice gates are just behind me, on the far left of the photo.
The river flooded yesterday and people had to be evacuated! The Hartbeespoortdam is about 102% full at this stage.
There was only one gate open this morning, yesterday they opened five sluice gates, it must have been a spectacular sight, we missed it unfortunately, due to other obligations, but I will definitely blip it as soon as they open so many again.
We witnessed the drowning of a man in his thirties, just to the left of that waterfall you see coming from the right hand side of the mountain, about seven years ago. He was with his family, picnicking and swimming for the day, and got drawn in by an unexpected current, while we were sitting with friends on the bank at the other side of the water. It was such a traumatic experience, his wife and little children, so desperately watching the emergency services trying to retrieve his body from the 'angry' waters!
